Where is Las Sabanas located?

Las Sabanas is a municipality located in the north of the country, in the department of Madriz, 262 kilometers from the capital Managua, and 23 kilometers from the departmental head, Somoto.

It presents a varied climate, tropical dry and tropical humid depending on the zone and in some higher parts presents / displays a mountainous climate. Its average temperature is between 20º and 26º.

Las Sabanas is located within the protected area Tepesomoto La Patasta, one of the richest areas of Nicaragua in terms of flora and fauna. A mountain of neblí-junva where orchids, ferns and high mountain trees are cultivated. In the month of August the well-known ecological tour called "friends and friends of nature" takes place.

Waterfalls.

5 kilometers from the city center, located 20 meters above the main road, we find the Quebrada Honda waterfall with a height of 14 meters.

The waterfall with greater height has a jump of 17 meters and the one of smaller of 12 meters. Pre-Columbian oilfields have also been discovered in this area.

Another possibility offered by the municipality of Las Sabanas to give us a relaxing swim in the middle of a spectacular nature, is the Laguna de La Bruja - El Pegador, less than 2 kilometers from the town.

In the area there are agroecological farms that offer us the possibility to know closely the production of coffee and traditional fruit trees such as orange and banana.

HOW TO GET LAS SABANAS:

If we travel by own vehicle once arrived in Somoto, we have to cross the whole municipality looking for the paved road towards San José de Cusmapa.

From the bus terminal of Somoto buses leave to the Sabanas, San Lucas and San José de Cusmapa.
